This is an amazing group of Succulents.
The actual family name is Asclepiadaceae,
but the most common name is Starfish or Carrion flower.
It lives up to it's name either way.
The majority of flowers look like a starfish, or very similar,
and are very often as smelly as road kill, but not always.
You don't need to get very close to smell most,
but that is the whole point! They are native to South Africa.
They smell bad to attract flies for pollinating.
